This week in Spartan sports

The Bainbridge Spartans will see an almost full week of action — cut short only by Labor Day and some bad air.

With wildfires in Eastern Washington and Montana creating smokey skies in Western Washington, the Spartans’ planned junior varsity matchup against Auburn Riverside on the road for Tuesday, Sept. 5 has been canceled due to air quality issues.

The varsity girls soccer team is still scheduled to play Auburn Riverside, however, in a match that starts at 7:30 p.m.

Also Tuesday, the BHS JV football team will travel to North Kitsap for a non-league game that starts at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, the Spartan girls volleyball teams will begin the season at home against Olympic.

The JV and C-Team contests are both at 4:30 p.m., while the varsity game starts at 6 p.m. in Paski Gymnasium.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, the boys and girls golf teams welcome Chief Sealth to the Rock. Tee time is 3:30 p.m. for the varsity squads.

Also Thursday, the BHS girls soccer team kicks off this year’s campaign by welcoming Nathan Hale to Memorial Stadium.

The JV game is at 5, followed by the varsity matchup at 7 p.m.

On Friday, Sept. 8, the Spartan gridders head west for a non-conference varsity football game against Olympic High in Silverdale. Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m.

The Spartan girls swimming and diving team also sees action Friday, on the road against Garfield at the Medgar Evers Pool in Seattle. The first race is at 4 p.m.

The BHS swim team will host the Spartan Relays on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Bainbridge Aquatic Center. Races start at 1 p.m. Bring earplugs: It will be loud.

Also Saturday, the Spartan girls soccer team will play its second game of the week, this time on the road against Central Kitsap in Silverdale. The JV contest is at noon, followed by the varsity game at 2 p.m.
