Spartans win in romp over Riders

Bainbridge rolled over the Rough Riders of Roosevelt to win in boys swimming & diving in the Spartans’ last meet before the holiday break.

BHS won 112-74.

The Spartans claimed first place in nine of 11 races, and also emerged victorious in 1-meter diving.

Bainbridge also had state-qualifying times in five races.

The Spartan foursome of Garrett Waite, Kevin Houseman, Andrew Witty and Jude Wenker won the 200-yard medley relay in a state time of 1:37.75.

Wenker also placed first in the second race of the away meet, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.52.

Waite followed with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley. He had a state-qualifying time of 1:58.53.

Kiernan Liberman placed first in 1-meter diving for Bainbridge, with a score of 241.15. He was followed in second by Spartan teammate Brian Taylor, who tallied 210.70.

Houseman followed with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 54.69.

Witty nabbed another first for Bainbridge with a win in the 100-yard freestyle; he touched the wall at 50.03.

Bainbridge won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:34.15, with the team of Oskar Bannister, Max Eyrich, Tyler Stewart and Witty.

Wenker won the 100-yard backstroke with a state-qualifying time of 54.73, and Waite also had a state time in the next race, where he posted a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.80.

The Spartans closed out the meet with a win — and another state time — in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

BHS’ A Relay team of Wenker, Houseman, Witty and Waite won the race with more than 2 seconds to spare over Roosevelt, finishing in 50.03.
