Spartans tumble over Vikings and Bucs

The Bainbridge Spartans gymnastics squad took first in a three-team meet against North Kitsap and Kingston Jan. 14.

Bainbridge scored 149.95 points, edging NK with 148.6, and Kingston had 42.05.

NK won the vault with 40.05 points while Bainbridge was right behind with 39.3 points. Viking Jordyn Lovett won the vault with an 8.3 score. However, Bainbridge took the rest of the podium spots as Avery Gray tied for first with an 8.3, Susu Bereman scored 8.15 and Elizabeth Olliffe had an 8.1.

Kingston’s Elli Falen was the best Buccaneer with a 6.45 score. She also led Kingston in every other event, scoring a 5.5 in bars, 5.55 on the beam and 6.0 on the floor. She was responsible for over half of Kingston’s points.

Bainbridge squeaked out victories in the other three events.

Gray finished first in the bars with 7.7 while Bereman was second with a 7.3. NK’s Lovett was third with a 7.1, Alivia Palmer finished fourth with 6.4, and Arabelle Miller placed fifth with 6.3.

The Spartans won the balance beam with 36.95 points, while North Kitsap was close behind at 36.35.

Gray and Bereman were first and third after getting an 8.55 and 7.8. Lovett led the Vikings after scoring an 8.5.

Kingston earned its highest team score in the floor exercise with 15.9 points. But Bainbridge and North Kitsap were again super close, with the Spartans again winning 41.0 to 40.8 points. Gray and Bereman came in first and second with a 9.2 and 9.1. Lovett finished right behind with a 9.0.
