The Bainbridge Spartans girls swimming & diving team claimed fifth place at the Sea-King District Championships last weekend.

Spartan sensation Margaret Hayes is the district champion in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly.

Hayes dominated in the 200-yard IM, winning the race in a pace more than 3 seconds faster than her preliminary time. She finished in 2:04.30.

In the 100-yard fly, Hayes finished in 55.17 — fast enough for All American consideration.

Spartan teammate Emma Solseng earned the district championship in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:03.99.

Spartan Coach Sarah Bullock said both girls set new school records, and Hayes notched a new district record in the 200 fly.

Solseng also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 24.19. Teammate Xaveria Rodriguez was ninth in the highly competitive race, in 24.82.

In 1-meter diving, Bainbridge’s Bryn Tiernan finished fourth with a finals score of 342.15.

Other Spartan standouts included Amelia Kimball, who was 11th in the 200-yard IM (2:16.92); and Naomi Howard and Eden Michael, who were 11th and 12th in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively, with times of 2:01.26 and 2:02.37.

Siena Levan also placed in the 100-yard butterfly, coming in 12th in 1:00.26.

Rodriguez claimed fourth place for Bainbridge in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 53.39.

The Spartan foursome of Rodriguez, Sydney Sorensen, Solseng and Hayes took the No. 2 spot in the district championships in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Levan raced to 12th place in the 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:02.86.

In the last relay race at Districts, the Spartan team of Kimball, Michael, Howard and Levan places sixth in a time of 3:43.53.
