Spartans offense clicks against Sequim

Bainbridge captured another victory on the pitch against Sequim 4-0 Sept. 28.

Although the Spartans have been a second-half team, their offense began to click on all angles throughout 80 minutes.

At the beginning of the game, neither team was able to break through the opponent’s defense. However, Sequim struck first in the 32nd minute when forward Teagan Moore fired a shot directly at Bainbridge goalie Megan Hauschild, but didn’t score.

Bainbridge responded a few minutes later when Gabby Weis shot from outside the box. After battling in the midfield, Bainbridge marched down, and Weis volleyed the ball into the back of the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Sequim looked to respond with a few free kicks and corners but failed to find the back of the net.

The Spartans scored when forward Avery Pujular two minutes into the second half hit a shot flying over the goalie’s head. Shortly after, Maya Fletcher fired a shot that hit the crossbar but missed the goal.

However, the Spartans’ offense was not finished. Within minutes, Grace Rich scored on a penalty kick, and Haily Fink scored from the 18-yard box, giving the Spartans a 4-0 lead with about 20 minutes left.

Sequim’s strikers made one final push in the final minutes but failed to capitalize.
