Spartan wrestlers fall to NK, Sequim

The Bainbridge Spartans wrestling team was swept on their home mat against Sequim and North Kitsap Jan. 18.

Bainbridge first gave the Wolves a battle but fell to Sequim 39-27.

Sequim took advantage of Bainbridge’s issues at the lightweights, earning forfeits at 106, 113 and 120 pounds. Both teams forfeited 126 and 195 pounds. In the other nine matches, Bainbridge captured five wins, four with bonus points.

Alex Morrison and Wyatt Chabot pinned their opponents at 132 and 152 pounds. Sequim responded at 138 and 145 pounds. Wolves’ James Mason pinned Spartans’ Hunter Halvorson and Aaron Tolberd defeated Tyler Dodge 4-0.

Ben Pippinger and Garrett Goade earned an 11-1 major decision and a 21-5 technical fall. Wyatt Goade won by forfeit at 220 pounds. Yet, Sequim picked up more wins by forfeit at 182 and 285 pounds.

North Kitsap dominated Bainbridge 64-12. The Vikings won the first seven matches, including forfeits at 106, 113, 120 and 126 pounds.

Vikings’ Wyatt Solomon defeated Alex Morrison 14-0, Dayton Heymann pinned Omid Neghabat, and Mason Holmes squeaked out a 3-2 victory in the middle of the dual.

Bainbridge earned two wins in the entire dual. Chabot and Pippinger pinned their opponents in the first period to earn six points each. North Kitsap swept the remaining matches.

Morgan Scott Paul started the winning streak with a 6-4 victory. Ben Gomez, Zachariah Hammou and Jesus Mares earned forfeit wins at 182, 195 and 285 pounds. Sofian Hammou won the final match with a second-period pin over Goade.
