Round-robin tennis tourney planned

Players are needed for “Doubles in a Day,” a round-robin tennis tournament that will be held in August at the tennis courts at Bainbridge High School.

The tournament, hosted by the nonprofit Bainbridge Community Tennis Association, also includes a post-tournament buffet dinner and exhibition match.

The tournament is open to all players over 18 years old and will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 at the BHS courts.

Entrants will play six-point supersets against other teams in their bracket. (Players’ ratings are combined together and they are either assigned to play 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 or 9.0 doubles.)

Organizers note that in each round-robin level, teams will be guaranteed a minimum of three matches and may be required to play for up to two hours. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. with the 9.0 level.

A buffet dinner will follow the tourney at 5 p.m. at Wing Point Golf & Country Club, and an on-court dessert will be served via an exhibition match of high-level players.

The tournament players’ registration fee of $35 per person includes the dinner.

Family members, friends and non-tournament entrants may purchase dinner and exhibition match tickets for $30 per person.

A raffle will also be held during the event, and proceeds will go to a scholarship fund for junior tennis lessons.
