Preseason look at local prep football teams

Football

Bainbridge

2021 record: 3-6 (3-4)

Coach: Jeff Rouser

Key players: Seniors Luke Lavigne, Saha Hermann, Micah Bryant, Jeff Utter and sophomore Jack Grant

Outlook: Rouser said this is one of the strongest senior classes in his tenure. The squad will be led by captains Bryant and Utter. In addition, the offense will see a healthy and dangerous air duo between Lavigne and Grant, who is returning from an ACL injury as a freshman last season.

Schedule: Sept. 2, 6:30 p.m., Hazen; Sept. 9, 7 p.m. at Auburn; Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. at Sequim; Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m., Olympic; Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m. at North Kitsap; Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m., North Mason; Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m., Port Angeles; Oct. 21, 6:30p.m. at Bremerton; Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m., Meadowdale

Bremerton

2021 record: 6-3 (5-2 in league)

Coach: Paul Theriault

Key returnees: RB/DB Jayden Quenga, KR D’Shawn Harvison, LB Oliver Christian

Outlook: Bremerton will be one of the few teams fighting for the league championship. Even though it lost a few all-league players, the squad still has some of its best skill players. Quenga will be on opponents’ radars after finishing first team on both sides of the ball.

Schedule: Sept. 2, 7 p.m. at Central Kitsap; Sept. 9, 6:30 p.m. at Klahowya; Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m., Olympic; Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m. at Kingston; Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m., North Mason; Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m., Port Angeles; Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m., North Kitsap; Oct. 21, 6:30 p.m., Bainbridge; Oct. 28, 6:30 pm. at Sequim

Central Kitsap

2021 record: 3-4 (3-3 in league)

Coach: Mark Keel

Key players: Seniors Kouper Hall, Dawson Williams, Micah Stringfield and Greyson Morley

Outlook: Several key members on both sides of the ball graduated last year, including QB Kalai Pasi. Therefore, Central Kitsap will be relying on a young front line and workhorse running back Hall if they want to improve from last season.

Schedule: Sept. 2, 7 p.m., Bremerton; Sept. 9, 7 p.m., Bothell; Sept. 16, 7 p.m. at Yelm; Sept. 23, 7 p.m., Timberline; Sept. 29, 7 p.m. at Capital; Oct. 7, 7 p.m., Peninsula; Oct. 13, 7 p.m. at River Ridge; Oct. 21, 7 p.m. Gig Harbor; Oct. 28, 7 p.m at North Thurston

Kingston

2021 record: 1-9 (1-7 league)

Coach: Billy Russo

Key players: Senior Noah Walter and junior Modoulamin Suso

Outlook: Although Kingston struggled last season, the squad only saw four seniors graduate. Therefore, this young team had a chance to build throughout the whole offseason and summer. Kingston is coming off a 12th place finish, going 1-2, at the 7 on 7 tournament where sophomore Dewaun Swan stood out. In addition, the squad brings back second-team all-league wide receiver Walter for one more season.

Schedule: Sept. 2, 7 p.m. at East Jefferson; Sept. 9, 6:30 p.m., Rochester; Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m., North Mason; Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m., Bremerton; Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m. at Sequim; Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m., North Kitsap; Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m., Olympic; Oct. 21, 6:30 p.m. at Port Angeles; Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m., Foss

Klahowya

2021 record: 4-4 (2-3 in league)

Coach: Jeff Witte

Key players: Seniors Logan Wallis, Logan Wallace, Alex Devine, juniors Franklin Morgan, Nate Turk, Corbyn Killoran, and sophomore Carson Moore.

Outlook: Although Klahowya gave up 28 points per game last year, it returns Nisqually Player of the Year Wallis and second-team defensive back Nate Turk. Moore was one of three freshmen making all-league while Morgan and Turk were two of 10 sophomores to make the list.

Schedule: Sept. 2, 5 p.m., Coupeville; Sept. 9, 6:30 p.m., Bremerton; Sept. 17, 12 p.m. vs Tenino at Century Link; Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m., Life Christian Academy; Sept. 30, 7 p.m. at Vashon; Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m., Bellevue Christian; Oct. 21, 7 p.m. at East Jefferson; Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m., Sultan; Nov. 5, 7 p.m. at Cascade Christian.

North Kitsap

2021 record: 11-1 (6-0 in league)

Coach: Jeff Weible

Key players: Seniors Jordan Reece, Diego Deluna, Sofian Hammou and Benen Lawler, junior Logan Sloman and sophomore Ethan Guerra

Outlook: Who will fill the shoes of Colton Bower at QB? That’s the big question. But the team also lost many seniors who were first- and second-team all-league honorees on both sides of the ball. And, the Vikings’ young core struggled in a 7-on-7 tournament, finishing 0-3 in pool play. But they do return a strong front seven on both sides of the ball.

Schedule: Sept. 2, 7 p.m., Mt. Tahoma; Sept. 9, 7 p.m. at Tumwater; Sept. 17, 6 p.m. vs. Port Angeles at Lumen Field; Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m. at North Mason; Sept. 30, 7 p.m., Bainbridge; Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m. at Kingston; Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m. at Bremerton; Oct. 21, 7 p.m., Sequim; Oct. 28, 6 p.m. at Olympic

Olympic

2021 record: 6-3 (6-1 in league)

Coach: Sal Quitevis

Key players: Seniors Josh Gauyan, Alvah Fanua and Tristan Bluitt, and junior Luke Silva

Outlook: Although last year’s quarterback Dylan Boschee-Perry graduated, the majority of the offensive key players return. Some offensive linemen return as well as all-league running back Gauyan and second-team tight end Silva.

Schedule: Sept. 1, 7 p.m. at Eatonville; Sept. 9, 6 p.m., Renton; Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. at Bremerton; Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m. at Bainbridge; Sept. 30, 6 p.m., Port Angeles; Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m. at Sequim; Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m. at Kingston; Oct. 21, 6 p.m., North Mason; Oct. 28, 6 p.m., North Kitsap

South Kitsap

2021 record: 0-8 (0-7 in league)

Coach: Dan Ericson

Key players: Seniors Nate Ericson, Dylan Santini and Riley Smith, and juniors Braden Skovald and Jordan Lee

Outlook: South Kitsap returns all of its key starters. SK will have quarterback and defensive back Ericson return after finishing all-league. In addition, running back Lee, offensive lineman Santini and wide receiver Skovald return after being named honorable mentions last season.

Schedule: Sept. 2, 7 p.m., Bethel; Sept. 9, 7 p.m., Rogers; Sept. 17, 7 p.m. at Puyallup; Sept. 23, 7 p.m., Olympia; Sept. 30, 7 p.m., Emerald Ridge; Oct. 7, 7 p.m. at Bellarmine Prep; Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Graham-Kapowsin; Oct. 20, 7 p.m. at Curtis; Oct. 27, 7 p.m. at Sumner
