Driven indoors for preseason practice by the overbearing smoke from nearby wildfires, the Bainbridge High School football team was in the gym Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Football, the first fall sport to reconvene at BHS, officially begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 with an away game at North Kitsap High School.

The first slated home game this year is 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7.

After several days of respite, the insistent smoke returned to Kitsap County over the weekend.

The return prompted the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency to issue an air quality warning Sunday for across the Puget Sound region.

According to the agency, air quality levels are going up more quickly than expected, and the area is reaching unhealthy levels for everyone in some areas. The agency recommend everyone stay indoors when possible.
