The Gear Grinders middle and high school mountain bike teams returned to racing April 24 at 360 Trails in Gig Harbor.
Eleven local racers competed in a field of 400 riders in the first of four statewide races of the Washington Student Cycling League. For several Gear Grinders, it was their first race ever.
Four Gear Grinders made it to the podium: Ryder Mortensen, Alden Lemon and Oliver Gutsche-Smith all finished second in their divisions; Liam O’Brien placed third in his category.
Jump rope
The Bainbridge Island Rope Skippers, a private club, took all 13 members ages 8-13 to the Oregon Coast Classic in Astoria recently.
Over 120 athletes from all over the Pacific Northwest competed. The club practices up to six hours a week. For more go to www.biropeskippers.org
