Kickers fall to Lakeside, 3-1

Lakeside's 3-1 victory over the Bainbridge girls' soccer team on Wednesday had at least two positive results for the Spartans. We know we can play with them, said coach Mark Grindrod of the defending 3A state champions. And we discovered a new defender, Crisma Biggs, my player of the game.Normally a forward, Biggs was pressed into service in defense due to the illness of Veronica Ivey, and had only a single practice at her new position.

Lakeside’s 3-1 victory over the Bainbridge girls’ soccer team on Wednesday had at least two positive results for the Spartans. She played like she’d been there for a year, rather than just one day, Grindrod said. It also happened to be her birthday, and she even had an assist on our goal.Grindrod said Lakeside was a bigger, more physical team, and it took the Spartans 20 minutes to settle in. By then we were down 1-0.But he felt that his team dominated much of the rest of the action. The Spartans had several scoring opportunities, especially a cross from Erin Wiggins that Fab Rezayat just missed heading in.Adriana Gonzalez-Medina evened the score just three minutes into the second half, but Lakeside regained the lead about twelve minutes later on a chip shot over the goalie’s head on a breakaway. The Lions put the game away on a long-range goal with nine minutes remaining.I’m not upset with the outcome, Grindrod said. He’s already looking forward to the home rematch on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in the season’s next to last game. We’ll take it to them next time, instead of them taking it to us, he said. The Spartans, now 2-1 on the season, host Seattle Prep on Tuesday.
