Island girls score initial win in postseason showing

So far, so good.

The Bainbridge High School varsity girls basketball team (12-9 overall, 9-7 in conference) scored a win in their first appearance of the postseason Tuesday, Feb. 11.

A 59-52 victory against West Seattle put the Spartans on tap to play in Game 9 against Lakeside, at Ballard High School, on Wednesday, Feb. 12 as part of the second round of the 3A District Qualifier.

A win will advance them to Game 11, to be held at Ingraham High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. They will advance as either the seventh- or eighth-place team in Metro, depending.

However, a loss will send them to Game 10, to be held at Ingraham High School at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, a loser-out contest.

A win there would earn the island squad the ninth-place spot in Metro and a spot in the SeaKing District Tournament.

Only the seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-place Metro teams advance from the qualifier.

The 2020 3A SeaKing 3A Girls Basketball Tournament begins Saturday, Feb. 15 at Bellevue College, with the championship game to start at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.
