Cheyne Clark, Stephanie Whalen and Krissy Dickson of the Bainbridge Island Diving Club were double winners in a meet hosted by the Club at the Don Nakata Memorial Pool on May 11. Neal Griffey also placed first, winning the 10-under boys recreation event with 137.7 points.

Cheyne Clark, Stephanie Whalen and Krissy Dickson of the Bainbridge Island Diving Club were double winners in a meet hosted by the Club at the Don Nakata Memorial Pool on May 11. Neal Griffey also placed first, winning the 10-under boys recreation event with 137.7 points.

Divers from Issaquah, Mercer Island, and Federal Way were invited to compete.

Dickson won two events and Joe Dewey won the recreation category when the club hosted the White Rock Diving Club from White Rock, British Columbia on April 27.

BI team has top skip and jump

Meredith Daviess, Becca Doll and Lizzie Sharman of the Bainbridge Island Ropeskipping team won first places in the Washington State Tournament of Champions at Juanita High School on May 4.

Categories included several speed jumping events, where competitors are scored based on how many times the rope passes under the right foot in one minute or on how many jumps are completed in one minute as the rope passes under the feet two times per jump, and freestyle events, which are similar to gymnastics freestyle done while jumping rope.

The tournament included a rookie category for competitors who have been jumping for one year or less.

Russell masters short course swim

Brian Russell of the Bainbridge Area Masters swim team placed fifth in three separate events in the US Masters Swimming Short Course Nationals in Honolulu, Hawaii May 14-17.

Competing in the 45-49 age group, Russell swam 2:13.75 in the 200 fly, 2:13.65 in the 200IM and 4:45.63 in the 400IM. He was also ninth in the 100IM (1:01.42), 10th in the 100 fly (58.18) and 16th in the 50 fly (26.54).

BIYSC soccers it to ’em this fall

The Bainbridge Island Youth Soccer Club announced that registration for fall recreational soccer for players ages 7-18 begins May 29 and continues through June 15.

All new and returning soccer players ages 7-18 and adult volunteers should go to www.biysc.com and register. For the first time, BIYSC will take credit card payment (Visa and Mastercard) online for registration and jersey purchase. Cost is $70 per player with a $140 family maximum if all players register online at one time. Jerseys are $25 payable online. Scholarships are available through Helpline.

Volunteers will also fill out an application online this year.

Players registering after the June 15 deadline will be assessed a $15 late fee and placed on a waiting list, with no guarantee of playing fall soccer or being returned to last fall’s team. Information: 780-4400.

Teams remember Bill Wesolowski

Tickets are still available for the combined Bainbridge Babe Ruth League, Cobb Baseball and Peninsula Baseball Association fund-raising dinner and auction on June 1. Proceeds will help to build the Bill Wesolowski Memorial Press Box/Snack Shack at the new Sands Road ball field.The event, which costs $45 per person, begins at 6 p.m. at the Wing Point Golf and Country Club.
