Bremerton’s Patti, BHS relays stand out at meet

Many Kitsap swimmers qualify for districts

Bremerton’s Reece Patti and Bainbridge’s relay teams performed well at the Olympic League Divisional Swim Meet at the North Kitsap Community Pool Feb. 1.

Bainbridge won the 200 medley relay behind the team of senior Elias Dean, juniors Ryan Rich and Sota Inoue, and freshman Alex Geddes, finishing at 1:45.33. The Olympic Trojans followed closely behind at 1:45.92 with Kingston coming in third at 1:50.30.

The Spartans also took first in the 200 freestyle relay behind the team of senior Hayden Ludwig and juniors Mathias Bang-Knudsen, Rich, and Inoue, finishing at 1:31.99. Additionally, Bainbridge secured first place in the 400 freestyle relay with Bang-Knudsen, Inoue, Dean, and sophomore Bradley Roloff competing.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Patti finished first in 2 minutes, 1.23 seconds. Olympic’s Kaleb Chappell was second and Kingston freshman Quinn Mandenville third. All three qualified for districts in that event, which takes place Feb. 14-15 at Mount Tahoma High School. Patti also finished first in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.92. Trojan senior Trenton Crandall finished second, and NK freshman Liam Banker third. All three qualified for districts in that event.

Dean won the 200 individual medley, followed by North Kitsap senior Alex Braun and Kingston junior Joey Munns. Dean and Braun qualified for districts in that event. Inoue placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.56 seconds. He qualified for districts in that event along with Josh VanHuis of Kingston.

Kingston junior Tucker Riffle took first in the 100 free in 56.18 seconds. NK sophomore Adam Beers took second at 56.39 and Kingston senior Isaiah Najar third at 57.02. All three qualified for districts in that event, along with Viking Liam Banker, and Spartans Jonas Fritzsche and Romy Greer.

The 50 free consisted of three heats and 18 swimmers. Olympic sophomore Caleb Davis placed first in 24.72 seconds, with Riffle second in 25.47, both advancing to districts in that event. Also advancing to districts from their preliminary times were Trojan Weston Adams, Vikings Henry Maxwell and Beers, Buccaneer Tyler Chamberlin, and Spartans Rich and Roloff.

In the 100 breaststroke, Port Angeles junior Charlie Kasten took first in 1:16.84, with Bremerton freshman John Tabone a very close second in 1:16.95. Both qualified for districts, along with Chappell.

In the 500 freestyle, Bang-Knudsen, Viking junior Andrew Gyllensten, and Knight senior Charlie Morson all qualified for districts.
