SEATTLE – The Bainbridge boys varsity wrestling team deftly defeated their first two opponents of the season in the year’s first official match at Nathan Hale High School Thursday, Dec. 12.

BHS defeated wrestlers from Cleveland High 42-24, and also Nathan Hale 48-18.

In the first round Bainbridge faced Nathan Hale and despite a slow start with a double forfeit in the 106-pound class, the Spartans prevailed and dominated for the remainder of the round.

BHS lost the 113-pound class to Nathan Hale’s Martin Chavez.

Spartan Greg Williams (120) won by forfeit.

Jonathan Gallivan (126) pinned Nathan Hale’s Filman Woldermoriam in 3:37.

BHS lost the 132-pound class when Nathan Hale’s Chris Moore pinned Chaney Weaver in 3:22. Jack Miller (138) pinned his opponent in only 30 seconds, and Noah Hellriegal (145) won by forfeit. Dylan Read (152) won the match in 2:50, and Joaquin Gurza (160) pinned his opponent in 1:44.

David Grytten won by forfeit in the 170-pound weight class, as did Mike Grant in the 195-pound class.

There were double forfeits in the 106-, 182- and 220-pound classes.

In round two against Cleveland, Bainbridge won seven of the

14 rounds, with three double forfeits in the 113-, 182- and 220-pound classes.

Gallivan again won in the 126-pound class, but Weaver (132) came back from his first round defeat to pin Cleveland’s Jack Chulaphan in 1:16.

Miller again dominated the 138-pound class, pinning his opponent in only 11 seconds.

Hellriegal won the 145-pound class by forfeit, as did Read (152) and Gurza (160).

Grytten lost the 170-pound class when he was pinned by Cleveland’s Quin Shelby in 3:59.

Mike Grant (195) pinned his opponent in 1:12, and BHS lost the 285-pound class in a forfeit.
