STEILACOOM – The Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team surmounted a shortage of players to take seventh place overall at the 2014 Sentinel Duals Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Steilacoom High School.

Participating schools included Steilacoom, Meridian, Thomas Jefferson, Marysville-Getchell, Mount Rainier, Puyallup, Yelm, River Ridge and Shelton.

“It was a team tournament,” said Spartan Head Coach Dan Pippinger. “We did pretty well considering we only wrestled in half the weights.”

BHS finished with an overall team record of 2-3.

The teams were placed into two groups of five and wrestled in a round robin format during the first five sessions with each team wrestling four dual meets and each team also having a bye round.

The sixth and final session consisted of group crossover matches to determine final team placement.

Session One saw Bainbridge finish 1-0 and the team had a bye in Session Two.

Session Three didn’t go as well for the Spartans, as Bainbridge’s team score leveled at 1-1. Session Four saw the Spartans defeated by River Ridge 35-27.

Session Five was by far the least successful for the Spartans and the team was bested by Yelm 60-27, bringing the team’s record to 1-3.

Bainbridge was ranked in fourth place in the second team group.
