BHS cheer coach retires

Tawnya Jackson is retiring as the Bainbridge High School cheer coach after being a part of the Spartans program since 2011.

The Spartans new cheer coach will be Darienne Schoonmaker, who has been coaching at North Kitsap High School.

Jackson, who was a former Seattle Seahawks Sea Gal, has been coaching cheer for 36 years in the greater Seattle area. She began at BHS as an assistant coach before taking the head gig a few years ago.

In her final season as coach, she led the Spartans to fourth place in the WIAA Cheer Competition for the medium, non-tumbling division.

Jackson said on social media, “I want to thank the hundreds of athletes I had the pleasure of coaching, as well as the many assistant coaches that I had the blessing to work with.”
