BHS athletes excel off the field

Bainbridge High School is again in the running for top recognition this year for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Scholastic Cup challenge.

BHS officials said the WIAA Scholastic Cup recognizes performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface. Schools that finish at the top of their respective classifications in state athletic competition receive points, as do schools that finish at the top in team academic performance.

Sportsmanship is also a factor, with substantial points deducted for ejections from contests. At the end of the year, the school with the most points in their classification will be awarded the prestigious Scholastic Cup.

Bainbridge teams had the following grade point averages for the fall season:

Cross Country – Boys: Varsity, 3.878;

Cross Country – Girls: Varsity, 3.908;

Football: Varsity, 3.132;

Golf – Boys: Varsity, 3.430;

Golf – Girls: Varsity, 3.840;

Soccer – Girls: Varsity, 3.762;

Swimming & Diving: – Girls: Varsity, 3.806; and

Volleyball – Girls: Varsity, 3.754.
