Beavers cut their way to a win

SEATTLE – The Ballard Beavers bagged a big home win in varsity girls gymnastics late last week, winning a Metro matchup that included Bainbridge and Nathan Hale with a total team score of 171.1.

The Bainbridge Spartans placed second with a strong score of 169.6.

Sehome finished third (151.45), followed by Nathan Hale in fourth (129.4) and Bellingham in fifth (110.25).

The Spartans’ Mariko Ronan claimed third for the all-around title with a score of 34.40.

Emma Chee followed with a score of 33.6. Other Spartan scores: Lina Klinkenberg had 31.95; Alathea Pippinger, 31.6; Kegan Daniel, 31.45; and Karesee Pippinger, 31.3.

Ronan was won third place in the floor exercise event, with a score of 9.35. Kati Cooper claimed fifth place (9.25); while Chee was eighth (9.10); and Sydney Johnson and Alathea Pippinger tied at 8.80.

Chee had the highest score of BHS gymnasts in the vault, and placed third with 8.70.

Cooper was fourth with 8.60. Other Spartan scores on vault: Keagan Daniel (8.40), Klinkenberg (8.30) and Karesse Pippinger (8.30).

Remi Rosencrans had the best performance for Bainbridge in an individual event, placing second on uneven parallel bars with a score of 8.90.

Ronan was fourth (7.80), while Chee came in seventh (7.40). Daniel finished with a bars score of 7.20.

The Spartans saw two 9-and-above scores on the beam, courtesy of Ronan (9.05) and Rosecrans (9.00).

Klinkenberg placed fifth with a 8.85, while Alathea Pippinger was eighth with a 8.60. Karesse Pippinger followed closely behind with a score of 8.40.

The Metro Championship Meet begins Friday, Feb. 2 at Roosevelt High.
