Ballard slips past BHS in gymnastics

Ballard beat Bainbridge in the much-anticipated rematch last week in girls varsity gymnastics.

Ballard hosted the meet in Seattle, and the Beavers outlasted the Spartans to secure a slim 4.45-point win; 176.600 to Bainbridge’s 169.150.

Ingraham was third in the meet, with a score of 163.900, followed by Garfield with 115.550 and Franklin with 74.200.

Against the Beavers at home earlier this season, the Spartans won, 165-158.

Ballard finished on top last Friday thanks to first-place finishes on the vault, uneven parallel bars and floor.

The Spartans were first on balance beam, and also tied for first place on the floor exercise.

On vault, Bainbridge finished fourth, with Katharine Cooper collecting a score of 8.5.

Cooper was also third on bars (9.25), with teammate Mariko Ronan following in fifth place (8.7).

Cooper had her best performance of the night on beam. She won with a high score of 9.6.

Nikolina Klinkenberg placed fourth for Bainbridge on beam, earning a score of 9.1.

Ronan finished on floor in a first-place tie with Ballard’s Lianne Kistler; both gymnasts were awarded a 9.5 in the event. Cooper was fourth for Bainbridge with a score of 9.35.

In the all-around competition, Kistler finished as the meet champion with a total score of 37.050.

Cooper was second, and amassed a total of 36.7. Ronan finished fifth in the AA for BHS, with a score of 35.

The Metro Championships start at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at host school Roosevelt.
