SEATTLE – The Spartans routed the Rough Riders 21-1 in girls varsity fastpitch softball last Monday.
The game was called in the sixth inning after Bainbridge built its lopsided lead over Roosevelt.
Olivia Wikstrom was outstanding in the circle for the Spartans, allowing only one hit (and just the one base runner), while striking out 10 without allowing a walk.
The frosh pushed her record to 3-0 in the victory, and has allowed only one earned run in 17 innings on the season.
After three scoreless innings, the Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the fourth. Bainbridge put runners on first and second to start the inning on a single by Malia Peato, followed by a fielder’s choice by Sara Colley – Peato beat the throw to second.
Jenna Tabisola reached on a sacrifice and throwing error, with Peato scoring and Colley and Tabisola ending up on third and second. A ground out by Megan Spray plated Colley. Abby Sullivan then delivered a two-out single to bring home Tabisola to make the score 3-0.
Roosevelt scored their run in the bottom of the forth on a lead-off triple by Evie Wright and a ground out by Serena Toney.
Bainbridge responded with six more runs in the fifth.
With one out, Maddie Loverich tripled, then scored on a Peato double. Colley reached on an error. With Peato on third and Colley on second, Tabisola executed a suicide squeeze to perfection, driving in Peato and reaching base on the late throw home.
Then, with two outs and Colley on third and Tabisola on second, Wikstrom reached on an error and Colley scored. Sullivan followed with an RBI single, scoring Tabisola and sending Wikstrom to third. After Sullivan stole second, Kensey Baker drove in both Wikstrom and Sullivan with a single to center to push the score to 9-1.
The Spartans added three runs in the sixth.
Loverich and Peato started the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third. Tabisola drove in Loverich with a ground ball to the right side that was misplaced for an error. Tabisola moved the runners to third and second, and Spray closed out the scoring with a two-run single to right field.
Wikstorm pitched her fifth 1-2-3 inning to end the game.
Peato finished with 3-for-4 batting, a double, RBI and three runs.
Loverich went 2-for-4, with a triple and a run. Spray went 1-for-4 and had three RBIs.
Sullivan was 2-for-4, with two RBIs and a run, and Baker was 1-for-3, with two RBIs.
Bainbridge moved to 5-1 with the win and stayed perfect in the Metro League (4-0).
The Spartans will next face Ballard, at home at 4 p.m. Monday, April 10.
