Bainbridge whups Franklin in 80-32 football road win

The Spartans creamed Franklin High 80-32 in the penultimate game of the regular season Friday, Oct. 12, on the road, upping their overall season record to 4-3.

The Bainbridge High School varsity football team will play the final regular game, with Homecoming and Senior Night festivities, against West Seattle at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.

Against Franklin, BHS outscored their host in every single quarter, leading early and staying ahead throughout the contest.

In the first, they were up 21-14, and it was the most points the Quakers (2-2) would put up in one quarter all night.

Gannon Winker scored the first TD of the day for Bainbridge on a 66-yard run, and kicker Tanner Shattuck made good with the extra point.

Winker scored the second TD as well, on a 26-yard run, and Shattuck again came through with the kick.

Ryan Wilson then scored on a 17-yard pass from Winker, and Shattuck went 3-for-3.

The second was a shutout, with the Spartans putting up 24 more points, entering the second half 45-14.

Max McLeod scored on an 18-yard run, Winker on a brief 2-yard dash. McLeod then again scored, this time after snatching a 56-yard interception return.

Shattuck, who’d gone 3-for-3 already, capped the quarter with a 47-yard kick.

It was theirs to lose after that, but the Spartans came through. They put up 22 points in the third against Franklin’s 12 and took the final quarter, too, (13-6), handily securing the win.

In the third, touchdowns were again scored by Winker, Wilson and McLeod, and Shattuck went 2-for-2.

The fourth saw touchdowns from Brian Taylor, off a 20-yard pass by Alex Ledbetter, and a 95-yard kickoff return by McLeod.

Winker managed a massive 247 rushing yards throughout the night. Ledbetter contributed 105, and McLeod, 96.

Ledbetter passed 20 yards in just one attempt; Winker managed 17 in his one completion (of five attempts).

In receptions, it was Taylor and Wilson who led the day, collecting 20 and 17 yards, respectively.

Ledbetter was the team’s tackling titan (five tackles, one assist).

Elliot Weaver chipped in three tackles (one assist, one sack), and John Devlin got three as well (plus two assists).
