Bainbridge takes fourth in Metro baseball tourney

SEATTLE – The Bainbridge High varsity baseball teamed capped the recent 2018 3A Metro League Baseball Tournament in fourth place overall, earning them the No.3 Metro seed for the upcoming state championship.

Held between April 28 and May 8 at Steve Cox Memorial Park in Seattle, the league tourney saw teams from Lakeside, Bishop Blanchet, Ballard, Franklin, Roosevelt, West Seattle, Seattle Prep and others competing.

The Spartans did not play on Day One of the tournament.

In Game 3, on April 30, the island squad shut out Nathan Hale 5-0 in a loser-out game.

In Game 7, on May 2, the Spartans bested Lakeside 12-3 in loser-out game, advancing to Game 13.

On May 4, the Spartans fell to Eastside Catholic 3-2 and were next slated to play in Game 16, a loser-out game. In that matchup, they bested Bishop Blanchet 8-2, advancing to the final four, guaranteeing them a place at State.

With the winner set to be the District 2 No. 4 seed, and the loser getting a place in the KingCo Crossover game on May 12, the Spartans came up short, 5-3, against Lakeside on May 8.

Thus, Lakeside took third place (the Metro No. 2 State seed), and Bainbridge finished fourth.

The 3A Metro champs are the sluggers from O’Dea, who finished first (the Metro No. 1 seed at State); Eastside Catholic claimed second place (the KingCo No.1 seed at State).
