Bainbridge gymnast competes in Regionals

Bainbridge gymnast Mariko Ronan represented the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District and the Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club Girls at the recent Region 2 Championships.

Regionals was held Friday, April 12 through Sunday, April 14 at the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis, Oregon.

Region 2 includes gymnasts from Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Several hundred athletes who qualified through their individual state competitions competed over three days in Levels 8, 9 and 10.

Ronan was in the last session of Level 8 girls on Sunday evening in Corvallis, with approximately 60 gymnasts from across the region.

Although Ronan was the only Bainbridge gymnast to qualify for the regional competition this year, she was supported by Head Coach Jason Balangue throughout the meet.

Ronan did well in uneven bars and vault but really shined on beam and the floor exercise.

She performed a solid routine on beam scoring a 9.200, which gave her seventh place overall in the event. She then moved to her favorite event, floor exercise, and scored an impressive 9.475, which earned her sixth place in the event.

Ronan finished with a solid 35.225 in the all-around competition to complete her 2018-2019 competitive season for the Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club.
