Bainbridge dive club crushes it at meet

BEAVERTON, Oregon – Shattered!

The Bainbridge Island Dive Club broke a 13-year hiatus of Bainbridge qualifying through to the USA National Diving Championships earlier this month at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone E Championships in Beaverton.

The club had a record number of competitors — seven — qualify to compete at the championships, and numerous Bainbridge club divers delivered their personal best high scores.

Club diver Kiernan Liberman qualified for nationals in three events to crush a club record in what was arguably one of the toughest zones competitions in the country, which included regional powerhouses such as Stanford and Santa Clara.

In girls 3-meter diving, Bryn Tiernan placed 15th in the 12-to-13-year-old category with a score of 212.65. Mia Alpaugh placed 24th, with a score of 152.45.

In boys 1-meter diving, Kiernan Liberman placed seventh in the 14-to-15-year-old category with a score of 314.30. Fellow Bainbridge divers Brian Taylor placed 14th with 245.15, and Henry Sauermann placed 18th with 176.50.

In boys 3-meter diving, Kiernan Liberman placed 11th in the 14-to-15-year-old category with a score of 305.30. Brian Taylor placed 13th with 268 and Henry Sauermann, 17th, with 216.35.

In boys platform diving, Kiernan Liberman was eighth in the 14-to-15-year-old category with a score of 249.25.

The meet was held July 5 through July 9 at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center.
