Bainbridge blanks Bremerton on the pitch

The Bainbridge Spartans shut out the Bremerton Knights 4-0 on their home turf Sept. 20.

The Spartans found the back of the net when senior Eillie Murray scored in the game’s first two minutes.

The Spartans continued to pressure the Knights defense, creating a few breakaway attempts that led to corner kicks. Bremerton came close with 29 minutes remaining but a shot went over the goal.

Although Bremerton began to connect their passes, Bainbridge did not allow the Knights anywhere near their goal. Instead, the Spartans countered the Knights’ offensive attack with another first-half goal to take a 2-0 lead.

Afterward, Bremerton strung a few attacks together, leading to a corner and free kick. Yet, the free kick landed in front of Bainbridge goalie Megan Hauschild for the save.

The two sides held each other in check for the rest of the first half.

In the second half, neither team found any production early on. Bainbridge did not have a scoring chance until nine minutes into the half while Bremerton took nearly 20 minutes to earn a substantial opportunity on a free kick.

Even though Bainbridge held a 2-0 lead with a few minutes remaining, they continued to attack down the wings. One of their attacks led to a free kick, and defender Abby Peterson eventually scored.

With two minutes left, Bainbridge added one more goal as Murray found the back of the net for the second time of the night.
