Once more the last Sunday in February heralded the unofficial start of the cycling season in the Pacific Northwest with the return of the Chilly Hilly to Bainbridge streets.

The annual 33-mile bicycle ride saw the usual influx of riders from Seattle that has become part of the season staple. It has proven a popular Bainbridge Island attraction, and riders have come from far and wide to participate, including from Alaska, Iowa, Nevada and New York.

This year it more lived up to its name, because although conditions were sunny and dry, they were also quite chilly. Morning temperatures were in the low to mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service.

The Review’s Luciano Marano was in Winslow to witness the start of the ride, as the first group of cyclists disembarked the ferry. His favorite shots are collected here.
