Everybody’s a big winner when it’s One Call for All | In Our Opinion | Nov. 27

With Thanksgiving in the rear-view mirror and Christmas looming, we’re right in the middle of the giving season. Actually, on Bainbridge it has been here since October when One Call for All’s red envelopes were mailed to residents. But don’t forget to keep giving – OCFA’s campaign continues until the end of the year.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at OCFA by the numbers:

2010 will mark its 50th anniversary.

12,000 mailings occur each October; one to each island home address or post office box.

15 percent of OCFA’s mailings are returned annually; the national average return on bulk mailing is 1.5-2 percent.

52 percent collected comes from 12 percent of the donors.

12 donors contributed more than $10,000 in gifts.

14 donors contributed between $5,000 and $10,000.

More than 100 donors contributed between $1,000 and $5,000.

The average donation by check is $350.

The average credit-card donation is $510.

Online donors represent 13 percent of all those giving and contribute more than 23 percent of the total donations.

One donor sent 25 cents in an envelope this year; another a dollar bill.

The largest donation to date this year is a check for $38,000; the long-term contributor gave $23,000 last year.

$889,588.79 was collected in 2008 and OCFA hopes to match or surpass that amount this year in spite of the recession.

Once Call for All serves 85 nonprofits, 69 of which are based on Bainbridge and the rest serve island residents with offices elsewhere in Kitsap County.

Here are some numbers not provided by OCFA:

100 percent of the donors and One Call volunteers feel good about giving to those in need.

100 percent of those receiving are thankful.

100 percent of the donations go for worthy causes.

And nothing will stop it from happening again in 2010.
