Sandy, beloved Mother, Nana, and friend went to be with the Lord November 24 2021. She was born December 27 1938 in Everett Wa to Edward F. Ericksen and Margaret Grenvik Ericksen. Raised in Marysville WA along with a younger brother Kevin, she graduated from Marysville HS in 1957. She stayed close through the years to many of her classmates.

While at Everett Junior College she met and married Carl J. Burke in 1958. They soon moved to Hawaii and had their first son Cary. After moving back to Everett a second son Shawn and daughter Betsy were born. In 1967 they moved their growing family to Bainbridge Island where Stephanie and then Ryan were born.

While raising their family she designed and they built their log home. She then became a distributor and designer for a handcrafted log home company out of Montana for eighteen years. Her work is represented widely, including Japan.

When her children were grown she pursued her love of Architecture and Historic Preservation by going back to school in Virginia getting her BA in Historic Preservation from Mary Washington College in 1994. Then getting her Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon in 1999.

Sandy loved living and being a part of her Bainbridge Is. Community. Long before it became a City she was involved in Island planning advocacy. Served for many years on the Historic Preservation Commission and was very involved with the Bainbridge Historical Society and Museum. She loved attending her weekly Bible study, traveling, favorites were Hawaii, East Coast, Scotland, and Idaho. She always enjoyed spending time with her two beloved grandchildren, Hugo and Luisa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, son Shawn, who passed at birth and Carl. Remembrances in her memory can be made to Seattle Union Gospel Mission, Horse Plus Humane Society or Sidewalk Advocates for Life. Arrangements were entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of BI, WA.
