Peggy McCoy

Nov. 7 1932 – Aug. 25, 2018

Peggy (Taylor) V. McCoy passed away peacefully on Aug. 25, 2018. Peggy was born in Boston on Nov. 7 1932, and – along with her family – moved to California in 1948. An entrepreneurial spirit, Peggy started The Telephone Secretary answering service in Buena Park, later opening a second branch in Vista, before retiring to Whitmore, CA. In 1960, Peggy married real estate broker William H. McCoy Sr., who predeceased her in 1969. She was the mother of Bill McCoy of Bainbridge Island and Martha (McCoy) Gagner (Drew) of Northern California, and devoted grandmother of Matthew Portillo, Nicholas Portillo, Jackson McCoy, and Travis McCoy.

Peggy relocated to Bainbridge Island in 2007 and became an outgoing friend to many and an inveterate volunteer at a number of Island organizations including the Senior Center and Children’s Hospital Thrift Store. Peggy also proudly served as an Ombudsman for local seniors.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will take place on Sunday, September 16 at 2:00pm at the Bainbridge Island Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helpline House of Bainbridge Island.
