Patricia Jean Adams

Mar. 24th, 1938 – Sep. 6, 2018

Patricia Jean Adams, 80, of Bainbridge Island passed away peacefully on September 6, 2018 surrounded by family at Liberty Shores Assisted Living facility in Poulsbo, WA. Pat was born in Seattle on March 24th, 1938. She grew up in Seattle and was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School in 1957. She went to work as an X-Ray Technician at the University of Washington, School of Dentistry where she met Harmon Adams. She commonly joked that she met the love of her life, Harmon, in a “darkroom”. They were married in December 1958, 7 months after Harmon proposed on their first date.

Following Harmon’s graduation in 1960, the couple moved to Ogden, UT where he served two years of service at Hill Air Force Base before settling to their longtime home on Bainbridge Island in 1962. They built a dental practice on Bainbridge together where for more than a generation, Pat was the face of the practice as the receptionist and manager. To this day, the office phone number still is Pat’s birthday, 0324.

Pat was proud to call Bainbridge home where she and Harmon raised their three sons in a loving, caring home on Sunrise Drive then in 1971 South Beach. The boys were known for having the uncontested best homemade lunches at school. This was a source of pride for Pat and endeared her to all the boys’ friends.

Pat was active in volunteering for many community organizations. She was the second president of the Bainbridge Cooperative Nursery School, a docent at The Bloedel Reserve, active in PTO, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts, The Children’s Orthopedic Guild and many others. Pat was a competent player of bridge, gifted at quilting and needlepoint and she and Harmon were a beautiful couple on the dance floor.

Pat, or Patti as she was affectionately known to her brother, cousins and early family and friends, was instrumental in connecting with her Swedish ancestry and fostering family reunions. She and Harmon hosted relatives and had the pleasure of traveling to Sweden to visit her homeland.

Pat was best known as a nurturer. She was a pillar of consistent kindness within her family and community. She was full of love and was quick with a smile and reassurance when anyone needed encouragement.

Her family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers who so lovingly cared for Pat at Harbor House Memory Care in Poulsbo for the past six years.

Pat is survived by her brother Ronald Benson (Gae) of Lynnwood, WA, her three sons, Michael (Mary) of Jefferson County, Jeff and Todd (Yaroslavna), both sons of Bainbridge Island. She was blessed with five grandchildren, in-laws, cousins and relatives all who adored her. She is preceded in death by her husband Harmon F. Adams, DDS, and her parents June (Russell) Ekman and Carl Benson .

A private internment was held in the family plot at Seabold Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to Pat’s celebration of life on Friday October 19, 2018 at 6:30 PM in the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art 550 Winslow Way East Bainbridge Island, WA 98110. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bainbridge Public Library and the Bloedel Reserve. Arrangements are entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
