It is with heavy hearts, we share the news of Nancy Hahto’s passing. Nancy Earlene Hahto (Sisson) was born on February 8, 1938, in Chanute, Kansas, and passed away on October 31, 2024, at her home on Bainbridge Island. she was 86 years old.

To say Nancy was a talented and prolific knitter and baker, is a vast understatement. She was legendary in her family for knitted gifts (especially for babies) and for her 3-days rolls, Finnish Coffee Bread, Swedish Tea Ring, and Danish Pastry. Nancy never missed an opportunity to send a birthday card or a thank you note to express her love and appreciation.

Nancy’s family moved from Kansas to Chelan Washington, when she was nine. She attended schools in Chelan, until her senior year of High School, when the family moved to Wenatchee Washington, where she graduated in 1956. In 1962, Nancy met Jeffery Hahto, and the two of them married in August of 1963. In 1967, Nancy, Jeff and their two daughters, Linda and Jo Ann, moved to Bainbridge Island, where she lived until her passing.

Nancy worked for the Bainbridge Island School District for many years, retiring in 2000. In her retirement years, she enjoyed singing with the Evergreen Singers, and continued to knit and bake for family and friends.

Nancy is survived by her loving family; her husband of 61 years, Jeffery Hahto; daughters Linda Hinman and Jo (Jo Ann) Dearsley (Jim), grandson Jeffery Hinman (Chelsea) and great grandson, Oliver. Oliver brought his Great Grandma a great deal of joy in her final days. Nancy also leaves behind many cherished family members, special friends, and chosen extended family.
