Mary (Joan) Falconer Kotz

September 23, 1929 – May 1, 2019

Mary (Joan) Falconer Kotz, a 57-year resident of Bainbridge Island, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the age of 89 at the Madrona House on Bainbridge. Born (9/23/29) and raised in Brainerd, MN., she moved to Minneapolis after graduating high school, where she attended business college and met her future husband, William Henry Kotz. They eventually came to B.I. in the fall of 1962, settling down to raise a family of four children on a small farm in the center of the Island. Mary has been an admirer and practitioner of “alternative” beliefs, lifestyles and community throughout her adult life, volunteering for CAMP (Central Area Motivational Program), serving as teacher/co-manager of the Bucklin Hill School, helping to found the B.I. Food Coop, working as an independent caregiver and hospice facilitator, and living joyfully in a yurt on the family property for 10 years. Her first husband, “Bill” Kotz died in 1978, and her second husband, Jack Klamm, passed away in 2008. She is survived by four sons: Paul, Cappy, Marc and David Kotz; three granddaughters: Maddie Kotz, and Mira and Bayla Rosenkotz; and 6 nieces and a nephew on the Falconer side. A memorial will be held at some point in the next few months. Inquiries and interests can be directed to Marc at marc@born2move.org.
