Marjorie Lou Andersen

Born to Garner and Lola Steen of Vashon Island on Jan. 1, 1926, Marjorie Lou Andersen passed away peacefully Sept. 25, 2014 at Virginia Mason Hospital, Seattle.

She married Robert Andersen, her childhood friend and high school sweetheart in 1949. She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2001.

After graduating from Vashon High School in 1944, Lou moved to Los Angeles, California to train and work as a nurse. She and Robert had three children born between 1950 and 1956 which they raised, first in West Seattle, then the suburbs of Chicago before settling on Mercer Island in 1965.

She relocated to Bainbridge Island in 2007 to be near her daughter’s family and lived independently up to the time of her death.

Lou’s intelligent, compassionate and loving nature will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. She found her fulfillment and deepest satisfaction in and around her family. The love and affection expressed in her marriage to Bob was an inspiration and model to all her children.

She was preceded in death by her brother Max.

She is survived by her brother Gordon Steen, sister’s in-law Peg and Barbara Steen; daughter Jenny, sons David and Morgan, son in-law Mark; daughters in-law Barbara and Peg; grandchildren Ivy, Nolan, Sarah and Heather; and six great-grandchildren, Niya, Lola, David, Colin, Rileah and Felix.

Lou was reunited with her beloved Bob at a graveside service Saturday Oct. 11 at the Vashon Cemetery.
