Margaret C. “Maggie” Paine Baker

Margaret C. “Maggie” Paine Baker, 88, died Nov. 14 at Swedish Providence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 11, 1916.
A resident of Bainbridge Island for 21 years, she previously lived in Dubuque, Iowa.
While in Iowa, she owned and operated the Dubuque Beauty Academy and served as president of the Iowa State Cosmetology Board for several years.
She also was an instructor for the Northeast Iowa Community College.
Upon moving to Bainbridge Island, she became active in St. Cecelia Church and the VFW. Over the years she also spent many hours caring for the children of many families.
She is survived by two daughters Dee (Wayne) Vestal of Tampa, Fla., and Deborah Paine of Seattle; one son Howie (Vicki) Paine of Bainbridge Island; three grandchildren, Chris Mendell, Nashville, Tenn., Travis Paine Turnsen, San Francisco, Calif. and Cameron Paine-Thaler, Seattle; and two great-grandchildren and two nieces, Tana Paine (Monte) Parrish, Ames, Iowa, and Stephanie Paine, San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mary Howard; and her husbands John Paine and Bill Baker.
Following cremation, a mass will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 22 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with reception following.
