Louise Johnson

Louise Eleanor Verheek Hyndman Johnson, of Bremerton, died on Sept. 13. She was 93.
She was born Aug. 29, 1916 in a small four-room house in Ogden, Utah, to Abel and Hanna Verheek.
Grade school was easy; she skipped two grades and graduated at 16 from Missoula County High School in June 1933. She attended the University of Montana for two years, majoring in business.
In May 1936 she married Charles Benjamin Hyndman in Boulder, Mont. She enjoyed homemaking and was a great cook and seamstress. She was generous in giving gifts to family and friends and was a loyal friend and neighbor. She also loved to travel.
She lived in Nome, Alaska from 1944 to 1950 and enjoyed sharing stories of her experiences there.
She was also professional businesswoman; her employment included the Singer Sewing Machine Company, J. C. Penney, Miners and Merchants Bank, Bank of Columbia Falls and The First National Bank of Missoula, from which she retired as a bank officer in 1973.
She was widowed in 1968, later meeting and marrying Howard Johnson in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1972. They resided in Montana.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions. She and Howard were called to serve a church mission in Missouri in 1977.
She was a warm, loving and thoughtful woman who had compassion for others and served her family and friends with affection and generosity. She had a beautiful, cheerful smile and was always ready to give heartfelt encouragement.
She lived at the Vintage of Bremerton for several years and spent the last year of her life living at her daughter’s home.
Survivors include her daughter Carolyn (David) Harris of Bremerton; grandchildren Michael and Heather Harris of Tucson, Ariz., Joan Leahman of Ashburn, Va., Colene and Greg Wright of Rockford, Ill., Janet and Jeff Smiley of Meridian, Idaho., Renee and Carl Tuke of Layton, Utah, Jeffrey and Cecilia Harris of Farmers Branch, Texas, Steven and Christie Harris of Irving, Texas and Judy Johnson of Grants Pass, Ore; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five nieces; and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Benjamin Hyndman; two brothers, John Verheek and Herb Lawrence; sister Florence Bingham Vargo; and second husband Howard Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Bremerton chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2225 Perry Avenue.
A grave site dedication will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Missoula City Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund or the Hospice of Kitsap County Care Center.
