Kathleen Lacey

December 3, 1941 – January 8, 2025

Kathleen Valdis Lacey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Bainbridge Island.

Born to Ted and Valdis Abbott on Bainbridge Island, Kathleen spent her early years in the Pacific Northwest, where she worked as a child at her family’s produce stand in Pike Place Market. She later attended the University of Washington before moving to Washington, D.C., where she embarked on a distinguished career in public service. Kathleen dedicated much of her professional life to the Central Intelligence Agency, earning numerous recognitions and awards for her exceptional service.

In 1968, Kathleen married Michael Lacey, with whom she shared a devoted partnership spanning decades. Together, they raised their son, Matthew Lacey. In 2003, Kathleen and Michael returned to Bainbridge Island to enjoy their retirement amidst the natural beauty of her birthplace.

Kathleen found joy in many pursuits throughout her life. She loved beachcombing and cherished walking along the shores of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, searching for shells. Her passion for gardening flourished during her later years and culminated in her achievement of a Master Gardener certification. She was also an avid quilter and enjoyed working in a dedicated quilting room in her home.

Faith was a cornerstone of Kathleen’s life. She found deep joy and connection within the community at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island. As an active volunteer, she cherished every opportunity to engage with her church family.

A service celebrating Kathleen’s life will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on February 8 at 2 pm. Donations to the Bainbridge Island Land Trust are suggested in lieu of flowers.

Kathleen will be remembered for her dedication to service, her love of family and community, and the grace with which she lived her life. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
