Judith Jenny

April 23, 1937 - July 11, 2021

Judith Ann (Sweeney) Jenny passed away peacefully on July 11, 2021. She was born in Portland Oregon on April 23, 1937 to Edmund and Florence Sweeney. Judy was a proud member of SNOB, Society of Native Oregon Born.

Judy graduated from the University of Portland with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. While vacationing in Hawaii, Judy met Duncan Jenny on a blind date. She moved to Honolulu four months later, packed a great picnic lunch for their first date and five months later they were married on September 14, 1963. They raised two wonderful sons, Patrick and Paul, in the Aloha state of Hawaii.

The Jenny family moved to Bainbridge Island in 1981. Sadly, Duncan, the love of Judy’s life, passed away in 1988. Judy made wonderful friends on the island, enjoying her Bunco group and the Pool Pals. She loved to go to garage sales and frequently co-hosted the most efficiently run garage sale, strictly enforcing her “No Early Birds” rule. Going to Judy’s house was a treat. Her backyard had a beautiful rose garden. Her home was decorated lovingly with all her garage sale treasures. There was an extensive collection of Disney videos and plentiful candy dishes. Judy always provided a huge assortment of food and beverages, and a lovely table setting was always the norm.

Judy was incredibly generous at birthdays and holidays. Christmas gifts were beautifully wrapped. Her Christmas shortbread cookies and fudge will be missed by many. Birthdays began with a 9AM call with Judy singing Happy Birthday. Judy loved her role as a mom – and she spoiled her grandchildren (and grand dogs).

Judy was a warm, funny, feisty and a bit irreverent Irish woman. It’s no surprise that the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame was her favorite football team. She will be greatly missed by those that knew her and loved her. Judy is survived by her son Patrick (Kathleen Higgins), grandchildren Molly Jacobson (Mark) and Darby Jenny; son Paul (Alisa) and grandchildren Duncan and Liam Jenny. She is also survived by her brother Pat Sweeney (Chris). She was preceded in death by her brother Mike Sweeney and her husband Duncan Jenny.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s on Bainbridge Island on August 30, 2021, at 11AM with a reception following at the church.
