Joanne Newland, of Woodburn, Ore., died on Aug. 20 at Silverton Hospital in Silverton, Ore. She was 79.
She was born on June 3, 1930 and graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle, later residing in Kodiak, Alaska. She enjoyed raising her grandchildren, knitting, crafts, cooking, sewing, and playing the organ and piano.
She is survived by her mother, Lillian Blanche Jay; husband Ernest Newland; brother John M. Jay; Joanie Carr; sons Marvin and Ernest Newland; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Aug. 27 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge, with interment following at Washington Memorial Park in Seattle. An online guest book is at www.cookfamilyfuneralhome.com.
