James William Andresen

November 25, 1926 – June 13, 2021

Dr. James William Andresen, the man by whom you could set your watch, passed away on June 13, 2021. Jim lived a very full 94 years — from driving a Navy ambulance in Hawaii during WWII, practicing veterinary medicine, climbing the Great Pyramid of Giza, and trading-in a BMW for a Camaro while in his 90s — he enjoyed life! Jim was born and lived most of his life in Vancouver, WA. In practice with his father, Olaf, the first veterinarian in Vancouver, Jim was often referred to as “New Doc” to Olaf’s “Old Doc” at the Andresen Animal Clinic. Jim was a proud WSU Cougar where he met his future wife, Virginia “Ginger” Hoffer, at a function between his fraternity (Lambda Chi Alpha) and her sorority (Alpha Chi Omega). After Ginger passed away in 2007, he was the constant companion and caregiver to Ginger’s mother, Martha Newcomb (Granny). When Granny died in 2010, he continued to stay in Vancouver for a few more years until, out of the blue, he told the family that it was time to move to Bainbridge Island to be closer to his daughter, Sue, and her family. Jim is survived by his daughter, Sue Andresen; her husband, Dennis Kirkpatrick; their daughter, Carrie Kirkpatrick (fiancé Matthew Natali); and honorary daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Raymond Maudet of Cholet, France. Jim is also survived by his three nephews, Greg, Jim, and Dave Clay. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11:00AM at the Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 East 12th Street, Vancouver, WA 98660. A Celebration honoring Jim’s life will be held on Bainbridge Island, Washington later in the summer.
