Huan-Hsin Shyu

Huan-Hsin Shyu, of Bainbridge Island, died on Oct. 6 at The Messenger House Care Center. He was 90.

He was born on July 13, 1919 in Thailand. When he was nine years old, he moved to Canton, China to live with relatives. He joined the Chinese Army’s Whampoa Military Academy after graduation from high school. He served the Chinese Nationalist Army during World War II and moved to Taiwan with General Chiang Kai-Shek in 1949.

In 1982, he retired as a colonel and moved to Argentina to live with his daughter. He immigrated to the United States in 1984.

He is survived by his son, Jiann-Shing Shyu of Taiwan; daughters Lin of Argentina and Lih of Bainbridge Island; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
