George Ival Prater

George Ival Prater, 75,

George Ival Prater of Captain Cook, Hawaii, and Bainbridge Island, died Jan. 16, at his home in Captain Cook.

Born on April 1, 1934, to George and Nedra (Parks) Prater, he was a graduate of Stadium High School in Tacoma. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1955 from Washington State College, his MBA in 1959 from Stanford University, and his Ph.D. in 1963 from Stanford University. He was a professor at Tuck Business School at Dartmouth College from 1960 to 1965 and at the University of Washington School of Business from 1966 until his retirement in 1998. In 1969 and 1973, he taught at the University of Hawaii. He served as a consultant for the American Bankers Association.

He lived on Bainbridge Island where he and wife Joan raised their two children.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan; son Karl; daughter Kristin Glenn (Mike); sister Ann Prater; granddaughter Emily; uncle and aunt Kay and Mary Ann Parks.
