Francis Peterson

Francis Seward “Pete” Peterson, of Bainbridge Island, died on Sept. 3 at home. He was 82.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1926 in Port Angeles. He grew up, attended high school and raised a family in Port Towsend. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., graduating in 1947 as a marine engineer and accumulating more than 30 years at sea. In 1972 he, his wife Adele and their family moved to Bainbridge, where his life centered round Adele, his family and the church.

He is survived by his wife, Adele Frances Peterson; children Kathy (Ed) Smith, John Peterson, Peter (Susan) Peterson, Barb (John) Moots, Jim Peterson, Chris Springer, Teresa Peterson, Patty Peterson and Michelle Peterson. He also leaves behind his sister, Anne Maloney; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 with a Memorial Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, with a reception at Conger Hall.
