Donald D. Divine

Donald D. Divine, age 79, of Bainbridge Island, died Feb. 11 at Virginia Mason Hospital, Seattle.

He was born Oct. 4, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Allen and Pearl (Chandler) Divine.

He married Betty June Larrabee Sept. 4, 1942 in Port Angeles, where the couple made their home.

He served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot during WW II and retired from the US Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Colonel.

With Mrs. Divine’s family, the couple founded the Peninsula Herald newspaper.

In 1947, the couple moved to Seattle. The family moved to Bainbridge Island in 1958, where they have since lived.

He managed the L & H Printing Co. and later established L&H Engraving Co. in Seattle, which he managed until retiring.

He was an avid golfer and a past president of Wing Point Golf and Country Club, where he once shot a hole-in-one.

Beginning in 1965, he served as a Bainbridge Island Fire Commissioner for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty June, who died in 1990.

He is survived by his wife Jean and his son, James Divine, of Bainbridge Island.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Port Madison Lutheran Church on Bainbridge Island. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
