Deborah Blair Hill

March 21, 1942 – April 13, 2025

Deborah Blair Hill was born March 21, 1942 in Abington Pennsylvania to William Richardson Blair and Evelyn Flower Morris.

Her family eventually moved to Villanova Pennsylvania. In the summer they would spend time at Squam Lake in New Hampshire. It was there she spent her days hiking, sailing, swimming and learning to water ski. During the school year she and her siblings would travel by train each day to attend Germantown Friends School.

During her GFS years Debbie participated in softball, basketball and was an outstanding field hockey player. She would remain a life-long sports fan. While not an exceptional student, she had a strong group of friends and enjoyed many social activities. She herself would say that she was often found knitting argyle socks during study hall rather than hitting the books. Debbie graduated with the Class of 1960.

Upon graduation she attended Russell Sage College, an all woman’s school. It was there her roommate introduced her to a young man from New Hampshire. She and Steve Hill would marry on March 17, 1962. Together they would raise three children, welcome 5 grandchildren, start Hill Moving Services and travel the world. In the late 1970’s Debbie earned her commercial driver’s license and joined Steve as they traveled the US. They would celebrate 59 years of marriage ending upon Steve’s death in 2021.

Fifty years ago the Hill family would settle on Bainbridge Island. While living on the island Debbie was active coaching Little League, umpiring rec-league softball and driving a school bus. A life-long Episcopalian, she first attended St. Barnabas and later helped form Grace Church. Mom bowled on a league at the Bainbridge Bowl, led a Camp Fire Girls troop, worked the Rotary Auction and volunteered at the schools. All this in addition to being the mom-taxi to three equally busy kids.

In 1991, as empty-nesters, Steve and Debbie would make their final home in Poulsbo and grow their business at the warehouse they built in 2000. The company grew and Debbie maintained her busy schedule supporting many local charities, civic organizations and local arts/theatre venues. She took her personal and professional endeavors very seriously sitting on serval Boards and committees. Her family would often tease that we couldn’t go anywhere without her knowing someone!

Our beloved mother ended her earthly journey April 13, 2025. She passed quietly at the age of 83 and joins her husband, her parents and her older brother, Ashton Blair. Left to celebrate her life and legacy are her children Mike (Janice) Hill, Lynn Hill, Kay (Tim) Hill Cook; her grandchildren Katie, Joey and Will Emery; Sarah Cook and Emma Hill; her older sister Fran Blair and younger brother Rich Blair along with numerous nieces and nephews.

We are grateful for her caregivers at Clearbrook Inn where she received compassionate care and companionship. The Hill family would especially like to thank her friends at Grace Church. They organized rides to and from services and visited regularly. They were steadfast with prayer and support.

A memorial service at Grace Church on Bainbridge Island is planned for Saturday June 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite Kitsap County charity.
