David Prongay

December 28, 1926 – February 28, 2025

Born December 28, 1926, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, David’s childhood fascination with flight set the course for his long and purposeful life. After serving in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II, he studied engineering at Virginia Tech, earned a master’s in aerospace engineering from MIT, and began a 40-year career at Boeing.

In Seattle, he met his life’s love, Jody Kamm, on a blind ski date. Marrying soon after, David took a new role in the Apollo Space Program, and the couple began their next chapter first in Huntsville, Alabama, where their three children were born, and then Houston, Texas to be closer to Johnson Space Center Mission Control.

Returning to Seattle in 1977, the family settled on Bainbridge Island where they remained for the rest of their lives. Following his work on the space program, David led major engineering teams at Boeing for reengineering the Panama Canal, and the first all-digital flight controls for commercial airliners.

A lifelong athlete with a gentle manner and fierce competitive spirit, David ran, skied, played squash, and loved games of any kind. He was a devoted father, friend, parishioner and lover of music.

David was reunited with his beloved Jody on February 28, 2025. He is survived by his three children and three granddaughters.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, followed by a celebration of his life in the Parish Hall.
