Carolyn Louise Moloney passed away peacefully on September 8, 2018 in Edmonds, Washington after a seven year struggle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on September 27, 1939 in Midland, Michigan to John J. Grebe and Hazel Amanda (Holmes) Grebe. She grew up surrounded by a large extended family of German immigrants near the Chippewa river.

She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and graduated from the University of Michigan School of Education in 1961. She married William N. Moloney in 1962 and moved to Seattle, Washington in 1963 and then to Bainbridge Island, Washington in 1966 where she raised her family, son Daniel W. (wife Ann) Moloney and daughters Catherine A. (husband Ron) Kennedy and Anne E. Moloney. She was an active member and the Christian education director with a special emphasis on the church’s Sunday school program at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church. She also taught at Bainbridge Cooperative Nursery School for many years. She was passionate about people and the community around her.

After raising her family she moved to Seattle and later married Conway B. Leovy. He predeceased her in 2011. One of Carolyn’s most enjoyable hobbies was playing the cello in small ensembles. She also loved to travel, was an active reader, water aerobics participant, and volunteered regularly at a women’s homeless shelter. Through the years she was known for the warmth and love that radiated from her.

She is survived by her three children and four grandchildren, Alyse and Ryan Kennedy and Will and Eliza Moloney, as well as, her sisters Ruth Lewis and Joanne Hendricks and brother Jim Grebe. Her brother John Grebe predeceased her. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, October 7 at Edmonds United Methodist Church at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to charity.
