Bernice Jean Tabafunda Williams

June 3, 1948 – December 29, 2010

      Bernice Jean Tabafunda Williams, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA. She was born on June 3, 1948 in Seattle, WA to Paul and Virginia Tabafunda. She was 62 years of age.

      She attended Bainbridge High School and worked for 30 years in the Seafood processing industry. Bernice worked in the berry fields on the family farm picking strawberries and raspberries.  She was the “fastest picker” in the family.  Bernice was nominated for the Jefferson Award for five years of volunteer work at St. Vincent DePaul. She enjoyed cooking and bringing lunches to her son, sisters and brothers. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and dancing. Bernice’s smiles and laughter were contagious.

      She is survived by her son Cliff Tabafunda of Kent, WA, grandchildren;  Jacob and Justine Tabafunda also of Kent, WA, her partner Muliata (Napa) Iauluaio, siblings; Barbara June Schaeffer and Pat Flores of Suquamish, WA, Carmen Voorhees and Marci Tabafunda of Bainbridge Island, WA, Elina Tageant of Chilliwack, B.C., and Randy and Gene Tabafunda of Bainbridge Island, WA. God Children Lucy Schaeffer and Viola Wilson.  She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends considered family. Bernice was preceded in death by her son William “Billy” Joseph Tabafunda, father Paul Tabafunda, mother Virginia Tabafunda, brother Florentino Tabafunda, brother Domingo Tabafunda, nephew Antonio Abrahamson and niece Sarita Flores.

      Family and friends attended the visitation on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 5-7 pm with the Recitation of Rosary following at 7 pm at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island, WA. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 10 am at the church. A reception followed at the church’s Conger Hall.
