Beatrice Stockham Tyus
October 29, 1941 – July 12, 2011
Bea lost her courageous battle with cancer and peacefully passed away on July 12,2011 at Swedish Hospital, Seattle, WA.
Bea was born on October 29, 1941 in Hollywood, CA to Richard and Marian Stockham, and was destined to live a full and exciting life involving the entertainment industry. Bea’s mother was in show business with the four golden blondes, who played the famous Palace Theatre in New York, on the same bill as the legendary Sophie Tucker.
Bea grew up near the beach in Pacific Palisades, CA, while attending local schools and graduating in 1968 from UCLA with a degree in English Literature. She still found time to be an avid body surfer. She used her education and creative energies working for several magazines and advertising agencies before switching to freelance advertising in order to travel and spend more time with her husband, Pernell, who worked as a cinematographer in the television and film industry.
Bea was an avid reader with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Her interests ranged from creative writing, to gardening, to house restoration, and politics. Bea was a stimulating conversationalist with a keen insight and a sharp acerbic wit. She was particularly passionate about human and animal rights issues. Her love for her husband was only equaled by her love of animals, particularly each of the eight dogs they rescued over the years.
Bea is preceded in death by her father, mother and sister & survived by her husband of 42 years, Pernell.
