Upset brewing for Central Ward Bainbridge council seat

He’s worked for the city of Bainbridge Island.

Now he’ll work for the citizens of Bainbridge Island.

Grayson William Wildsmith was leading against incumbent Bainbridge Councilwoman Leslie Schneider in the race for the District 4, Central Ward council position.

In the first tally of votes on Election Night, Wildsmith won 50.1 percent of the vote, while Schneider had 48.8 percent.

The initial count gave 2,319 votes to Wildsmith, and 2,258 to Schneider.

Wildsmith, 22, is a recent Gonzaga University graduate and political science major taking his first shot at elected office.

He has interned in Washington, D.C. with USAID in the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance on the Military Liaison Team, and also with the city of Bainbridge Island.

Schneider, 42, was appointed to the District 4, Central Ward council seat in April 2018.

Schneider is cofounder of OfficeXpats and has served on the boards of Sustainable Bainbridge and the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation. She is a graduate of UCLA.
